Adult Faith Exploration

IMG_5274-adulted-cropThe Adult Faith Exploration Ministry enhances the educational and spiritual life of adults in the church through programs and events. Recent discussions have included a program about Atul Gawande’s “Being Mortal” and a 3-part series “Let’s Talk About Faith”.

For our most recent program, on Sunday evening, March 26th, we hosted a dinner and a conversation on a topic rarely talked about:  death and dying.  This links us with two mainstream efforts known as “Death Over Dinner” and “The Conversation Project,” which aim to bring the subject of death/dying out of the shadows and into the realm of more comfortable, normal conversation.  For an interesting link to some materials we used for preparation, please click here.

Join us for an informal Bible study before worship each Sunday during the summer. We will gather in the Tucker Room and head upstairs afterwards to the Worship service at 10:00. This summer we will be exploring excerpts from the Hebrew Scriptures. Come join your fellow churchgoers for this nourishing activity!

The Conversation Project

Sunday, September 24

The Adult Faith Exploration Ministry will conclude our series on talking about death this Fall with The Conversation Project. This series began in 2016 with a video and discussion about Atul Gawande’s book, Being Mortal, which encouraged people to think about treatment and at what point it interferes with those things that give our lives meaning and joy. This past year we held Death Over Dinner, which provided several ways of grappling with death – our own and that of our loved ones. The Conversation Project helps participants think about specifics regarding their own death. It gives participants language to convey these thoughts to their community, and provides links to documents that record our wishes for when decisions need to be made.

Bible Study

Second Wednesday of the month, 7:00 PM – 8:30 PM
2nd Wed Bible study does not meet in July and August. See Summer Bible Study (above) instead!

Contact Judy Arnold for more information.

Led by Reverend Judy Arnold, Associate Pastor, this informal group studies and discusses a different piece of scripture each time, looking at the historical, political, and religious factors. What does ancient scripture have to tell us about ourselves and the world we live in today? We seek to discover what God desires for each individually.
